Preschool Halloween Party: Stories Around the World

Last Oct. 28, Goodstart hosted our annual and highly anticipated preschool event! Our Halloween party had the theme, “Children’s Stories from Around the World”.  Combining our literacy week with the U.N. month, we celebrated stories from different parts of the globe.  We saw how the parents were very supportive of our literacy activities. The children came with wonderful  and diverse tales from so many different countries.

The children’s costumes reflected a character in a fable or folktale from a particular country. Some dressed up in a country’s national costume and brought the story of the folktale or fable from that nation. We had characters from well-loved tales like the Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, and the Boy who Cried Wolf. During circle time,  some of the children volunteered to tell more about their stories based on the costumes they wore that day.

We encouraged that parents help their children make home-made costumes!  As a result, it was wonderful to see all their creativity and effort to make our celebration a terrific event.

In addition to the activities of the day,  the teachers decided to act out “Aladdin” to showcase a Middle Eastern folk tale.  Of course, the children were fascinated!  We aren’t sure though if this was because of the story or because of the acting of their teachers.

Finally,  we shared food found from all continents of the globe. The events of the day really entertained the children.  By and large, it was a great way to cap off our 1st semester!
